Therapy Shouldn't Be a Luxury.
A Sister’s Legacy
A Sister’s Legacy was created in memory of my sister, Marissa, who died in 2019. What started as a way to honor her has grown into a mission to make mental health care a little more accessible for people who need support but simply can’t afford traditional therapy.
Through our scholarship program, A Sister’s Legacy provides low-cost and fully funded therapy to individuals who might otherwise have to choose between getting help and paying their bills. To date, we’ve helped provide nearly 1,000 therapy sessions—and we’re still going.
Today, we’re also creating a model that supports the next generation of social workers. LMSWs are able to provide scholarship therapy while receiving clinical supervision and gaining experience on their path toward independent licensure. Clients get affordable care, new clinicians get support and experience, and hopefully we make mental health care suck a little less to access.
A Sister’s Legacy exists because your bank account shouldn’t determine whether you get to heal.
Brainspotting– BSP is a counseling technique that involves identifying and focusing on brainspots (spots in a person’s visual field) to help people process and release emotional weight associated with past events. It can be helpful for a variety of issues, including trauma, anxiety, mental blocks, physical pain, negative emotions, creativity, sports performance, overthinking, and security or confidentiality concerns.
